Winter Pie

One way to cut down on pretty decorations while you host is to make something pretty to serve! This is a great holiday and winter recipe that can be used as long as cranberries are in season.  I’m making it again for New Years Day!

Decorating pretty pies has become my new favorite thing!  This is my latest creation and so easy.

Winter Pie

  • Favorite Pie Crust (I went easy and used Pilsbury pre-made crust)
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 4 apples peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 TBS butter

Pie Glaze

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 TB sugar

Heat oven to 400.  Line pie dish with pastry.

For the Filling:

In a large bowl, whisk sugars, flours and spices together.  Add apples and cranberreis and stir together to coat them well.  Pour into pie crust.  Cut 2 TBS of butter into small squares and dot over fruit filling.

Place top of crust over pie.  This is where I like to get creative.  I bought these little pie crust cutters to make things fun.  They have every holiday available.  You can also go really easy and get these pie crust rollers.

For pretty crust top, beat the egg, cream and sugar together.  Brush onto crust.  I like to pour the left over into the pie.  It makes it creamy.

Bake in the oven for 7 minutes.  Then pull pie out, cover edges with foil so they don’t burn and return pie for 40-45 minutes.
